Ranchi : Sushila Kerketta, 71, a former Congress Lok Sabha MP died following a heart attack here Monday.
According to family members, Kerketta suffered a heart attack Monday morning and was admitted to a private hospital where she died.
Kerketta was a Lok Sabha MP from 2004 to 2009. She was also a legislator in the undivided Bihar assembly three times from 1985 to 2000.
Kerketta was Jharkhand state Congress president twice. She started her career as a lecturer from Ranchi University and later joined politics.
The union Food Processing Minister and Ranchi Lok Sabha MP Subodh Kant Sahay expressed grief over Kerketta’s death.
“We are in deep grief over the death of Sushila Kerketta. We have lost a person who made her mark as a politician and as a social worker. Her death is a not only a big loss for the party but also for the state,” Sahay said.
