No untouchability towards INL, says Kerala Muslim League general secretary

By TwoCircles.net Staff Correspondent,

Kochi: The possibility of a merger of the Indian Union Muslim League and the Indian National League can’t be scrapped off, said PK Kunhalikkutty, Kerala state general secretary of the Muslim League. The Muslim League has no feeling of untouchability towards the INL, he added while responding to the media persons about the words of PMA Salam, INL leader and MLA. The INL leader had earlier said that the party had no qualms in conditional cooperation with the Muslim League.

The opinion of PMA Salam is welcome, said Mr Kunhalikkutty. Such cooperation is essential with other minority organisations too. The circumstances prevailing in the country require it. The Muslim League would like to cooperate with not only a political party like the INL but other socio-religious and political organisations. Late Panakkad Syed Muhammedali Shihab Thangal wanted to cooperate conditionally even if politically opposite. The Muslim League does not have any feeling of untouchability towards any party, he added.

Even though no official talks have been done regarding the merger, Mr Kunhalikkutty said that he would not deny the possibility of unofficial talks. He recalled that All India Muslim League and Indian Union Muslim League had stayed separate for long 12 years. But ET Muhammed Basheer, former leader of the AIML, was the candidate of the IUML in Ponnani Lok Sabha constituency in the last Parliament elections. He added that both parties should decide on the matter of merger talks.

A group of leaders led by late Ibrahim Sulaiman Sait left the Indian Union Muslim League, protesting against the party’s allegiance with the Congress party even at the time of the demolition of the Babri Masjid. The Indian National League stood with the Left Democratic Front in Kerala for a long time, but the LDF has not yet got ready to take the party into its alliance.
