AMU holds symposium on “Aligarh Movement and its Relevance in 21st Century”

Patna: A symposium on the topic of “Aligarh Movement and its Relevance in 21st Century” was organized at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) by the Club for Short Evening Courses, General Education Centre of AMU.

Prof. A.R. Kidwai, Director, UGC Academic Staff College of AMU, highlighted the important aspects of Sir Syed’s life which are very much relevant in present time to construct a society fee from all social ailment and hassles.



He also said that today’s young generation has forgotten the values and ethics which Sir Syed maintained during his lifetime. He asked the youth to inculcate in them the values of inter-faith dialogue which Sir Syed promoted throughout his life.

Prof. Saud Alam Qasmi, Dean Faculty of Theology and renowned Islamic scholar, threw light on the mission of Sir Syed and said that Aligarh movement is like a torch which has spread light in the society. Appreciating Sir Syed’s affection for the community, he said that it was his dedication to the community that in his book titled “Asbab-e-Baghawat-e-Hind” openly held the British government responsible for the revolt of 1857.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mohibul Haque, Lecturer in Department of Political Science in AMU, said that Sir Syed always wanted to bring the community in the mainstream and to infuse it with positive developments.

In his address, Coordinator of General Education Centre of AMU, Dr. Shakeel Ahmad Samadani said that it was Sir Syed’s will that Muslims should inculcate in them all positive aspects of English and Islamic Education.

Dr. Samdani said that our community has forgotten the message of Sir Syed which coasted them to suffer from a number of social ailments like illiteracy, poverty and unemployment.

He also urged the students to establish educational institutes all over the world after completing their education and fight with injustice.
