Ranchi : Poachers poisoned an elephant and removed its tusks and nails in Khuti district of Jharkhand, a forest official said Monday.
“An elephant had strayed into a village in Khuti district. The poachers fed the elephant poisoned banana leaves. The elephant died and the poachers removed the tusks and nails,” a forest official told IANS.
“The elephant was buried on Sunday evening. We have lodged a FIR (first information report).”
The incident took place at Goplapur village, 60 km from here.
According to the forest department, more than 100 elephants have died in Jharkhand since 2000 due to electrocution, poaching and other reasons.
