Bhubaneswar : Three people were Thursday convicted and sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment for destruction of evidence in a case of the 2008 Kandhamal riots, an official said.
Seven others were acquitted for lack of evidence against them.
Fast track court-II Judge Sobhan Kumar Das convicted the three for destruction of evidence in the murder of Sidheswar Pradhan of Sulesaro village under Tikabali police station area of Kandhamal district, special public prosecutor Bijay Pattnaik said.
“The three persons have been convicted for destruction of evidence in the murder of Pradhan on Aug 25, 2008. Though they also faced charges of murdering Pradhan, but it could not be proved,” he said.
A fine of Rs.1000 each was also imposed on the three. If they fail to pay the fine, they will have to undergo additional three months’ imprisonment.
