New Delhi: The Ministry of Human Resource Development has launched a new Scheme of “Community Development through Polytechnics” (CDTP) to provide non-formal, short-term, job-oriented skill development programs to various sections of the community, particularly the rural, unorganized and disadvantaged sections, by harnessing the infrastructure available with Polytechnics. The courses will be offered without any fees and with no restriction of age and qualification.
The CDTP Scheme is one of the components of the Ministry’s major new initiative – “Sub-mission on Polytechnics under coordinated action for Skill Development”, which has been formulated as a part of the National Skill Development Mission. Under the CDTP Scheme, the selected Polytechnics will be provided financial assistance by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, to run short duration non-formal skill development courses. A variety of employment oriented courses are envisaged to be offered under the Scheme depending on local demands and needs. These courses will be offered by the Polytechnics in its premises, as well as its extension centres, to be set up in nearby locations, from where, these courses can be offered to the local community.
The Scheme also envisages transfer of technology and extending technical support services to the local community for which the Polytechnics would demonstrate, adapt and aid the assimilation of new technologies useful for the economic activities of the local community and provide technical support for their adoption.
The CDTP Scheme is to be implemented through 1000 AICTE approved polytechnics all over the country. The salient features and norms of the Scheme can be downloaded from the Ministry’s website – http://www.education.nic.in/secondary.htm.
