Brussels : European Union Foreign Ministers will foccuss on Afghanistan on Saturday, the second and final day of their informal meeting in Stockholm.
According to a Swedish EU Presidency statement, ministers of the 27-member bloc will discuss how the EU can strengthen the coordination of civil action in Afghanistan and reinforce the EU’s work to improve security in Afghanistan.
Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, has just visited Afghanistan, for the second time in a month, and will be reporting on his trip.
On Friday, the ministers discussed the Middle East peace process, the situation in Iran, and the role of the EU as a global actor.
In a press conference Friday afternoon in Stockholm, EU Commissioner External relations, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, said the EU supports the American administration proposals to freeze the Israeli settlements and to establish a moratorium.
On EU-Syria ties, Ferrero-Waldner said she was in favour of signing a Association Agreement with Damascus because it does not only set a framework for cooperation, but it also contains a number of obligations.
