Sheikh Borjaha was held with fake currency notes of denominations of Rs.1,000 and Rs.500 at a hotel here Tuesday night, Superintendent of Police (Raipur) Amit Kumar told reporters.

He said Borjaha — who spoke Bengali but apparently did not know Hindi — was staying in the hotel with his associate who escaped during the police raid.

“Borjaha and his colleague had pumped in fake currency notes worth Rs.40,000 in Raipur market,” Kumar added. He hinted that the young man might be linked to an outlawed organisation.
