Kolkata: At least 760 Durga puja pandals (marquees) in Kolkata have violated the safety and security norms set by the Calcutta High Court (HC), city Police Commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborty said here Sunday.
“We’ve surveyed all the puja pandals in Kolkata and found at least 760 puja organisers do not comply with the HC norms. We’ve prepared a full report mentioning the name of those puja pandals,” he said.
“We’ll give that report to the advocate general of West Bengal. According to his suggestion, we’ll further submit that report to the high court,” Chakraborty said.
He said that Kolkata Police had already given instructions to the puja organisers to meet the guidelines of the HC.
Chakraborty, along with the state fire brigade and PWD officials, Sunday went across Kolkata to monitor the safety and security features of the puja pandals.
According to police sources, there are altogether 1,125 Durga puja pandals this year across Kolkata. The Durga puja starts Thursday.
