Thousands of state LF supporters in Kolkata staged picketing in front of the Income Tax office at Esplanade area since 9 a.m., party sources said

LF activists also carried out the protest programme in other districts.

“There was a good turn out in front of the Income Tax office here. Our supporters also assembled in front of all head post offices in other districts today (Thursday) to stage this token protest against the central government policies that helped hike the price of essential commodities across the country,” a source said.

Earlier, state LF chairman Biman Bose said that the UPA government had miserably failed to control the sky-rocketing prices.

Bose also urged the central government to strengthen the public distribution system across the country.
