Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis has been given Blessed Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Award 2010 by Mother Teresa International Award Committee of Kolkata for his services in the field of education and for deprived classes. The award was conferred on him by Governor of West Bengal M. K. Narayanan in the presence of Governor of Bihar Devanand Konwar in a function on April 11 in Kolkata.
The award was also given to Devanand Konwar, Governor of Bihar, Prof. Sukhadeo Thorat, Chairman of University Grants Commission, Ajit Wadekar, former Captain of Indian Cricket Team, Gurbakhsh Singh, former Captain of Indian Hockey Team besides others.
The Blessed Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Awards have been previously given to several distinguished persons from India and abroad who have excelled in the fields of Education, Culture, Music, Social Work, Sports, Industry, Media, Medicine and Politics. They include late Mr. Jyoti Basu, former Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mrs. Hillary Clinton, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India, Ms. Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Girija Prasad Koirala, former Prime Minister of Nepal, Mr. Subrat Roy Sahara, Chairman, Sahara Group, Priya Ranjan Das Munshi, Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav, Mr. Oscar Fernandes and Mr. Ram Jethmalani.
