MCD has been mismanaged by BJP for three years: Congress

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has mismanaged the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for the past three years and has not done anything for the poor as the party had promised, Congress leader Jai Kishan Sharma alleged Tuesday.

“There was no development in any field…from public health, medical relief to sanitation. The civic body will only be remembered for it’s financial mismanagement,” Sharma, leader of opposition, told reporters here.

He accused the BJP of being “anti-poor”.

“In these three years, the MCD has not come out with even a single scheme for the poor…Nearly 1.4 lakh people are homeless and spend their lives on footpaths. There is a shortage of 60 night shelters, in the absence of which poor people spend their lives on the road, facing the heat and cold,” Sharma said.

He also criticised the BJP for the slow pace of work on projects related to the Commonwealth Games.

“The schemes relating to the Commonwealth Games are going at snail’s pace due to lack of funds. Out of 24 automated parking sites, work has begun only in three.”

The opposition leader said the BJP has not done much to improve the condition of schools in the city either.

“The BJP regime in the MCD has done nothing to improve the conditions of schools. Thirty-three schools are in a dilapidated condition, causing danger to nearly 10,000 students,” Sharma said.
