New Delhi : Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Friday said the government will give due consideration to the opposition parties’ demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the alleged financial irregularities in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“I have noticed everybody’s suggestion and due consideration will be given. The government will have to ponder (over) all the demands. I will forward the sentiments to the prime minister,” Mukherjee said amidst uproar by the opposition in the Lok Sabha.
Demanding a JPC probe, the opposition parties said it was one of the biggest scams in the country.
Income Tax and Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials have been carrying out searches at the offices of IPL franchises spread across the country. The IPL row has cost Shashi Tharoor the post of junior minister in the external affairs ministry.
