The Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) has launched a website which will take users on a historical tour through four very distinct periods of Sharjah’s rich archaeological past.

The new website also provides extensive information and updates on excavation finds in both Arabic and English, an official said.

“The launch of the website is a turning point in the museum’s 13 year history and will provide virtual access to our extensive collection to enhance learning opportunities for all,” Manal Ataya, SMD director general, said.

The website is user-friendly and aims to attract the younger generation. Using the internet is an excellent way to increase access to information and share experiences with people, she said.

The virtual tour highlights key objects excavated over 25 years in Sharjah, which include precious figurines, pieces of jewellery, inscriptions, and exquisitely crafted items.
