Sensex up 100 points in opening trade

Mumbai : A benchmark index for Indian equities Monday opened firmly in the positive and was ruling 100 points higher than its previous close, minutes into trade.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,692.26 points, was ruling at 17,794.52 points, 100.32 points or 0.57 percent higher than its previous close at 17,694.2 points.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was ruling at 5,333.8 points, a gain of 0.56 percent from its previous close at 5,304.1 points.

Broader market indices were also in the green with the BSE midcap index ruling 0.72 percent higher and the BSE smallcap index up 0.7 percent.
