Book on Iran-Iraq war hits US stores

Tehran: The English translation of a book of short stories based on a decade-long war between Iran and Iraq has been released in the US.

The English version of Habib Ahmadzadeh’s book “A City under Siege: Tales of the Iran-Iraq War” has been released in the US by Mazda Publications, Mehr News Agency reported.

The book, translated by Paul Sprachman, is a collection of nine stories and it deals with various aspects of the Iran-Iraq war, which was fought 1979-1988, and its aftermath.

This is the second work by Habib Ahmadzadeh to be tranlated in English his novel “Chess with the Doomsday Machine”, Mehr said.

The stories include the tale of a young sniper who contemplates the death of his Iraqi prey, a teenage paramilitary escorting Iraqi prisoners behind Iranian lines and a mother of martyrs who regrets her motherhood.

Some of the popular titles of the short stories are “Eagle Feather”, “The Airplane”, “An Umbrella for the Director”, “Thirty-nine plus One Prisoners”, “The Fleeing of the Warrior”, “A Letter to the Family Saad”, and “Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance”.

Habib Ahmadzadeh is a veteran of the Iran-Iraq war. He has also studied theatre arts.
