Kashmir on boil, many hurt in police action

Srinagar: The large scale protest demonstrations in defiance of curfew are pouring in from various towns of Kashmir valley.

Scores of people were reportedly holding demonstrations in Sopore, Naidkhai and Kreeri areas of north Kashmir and there were reports of clashes in Baramulla.

People in Naidkhai and adjoining areas of Sopore have defied curfew on Sunday and have held protest demonstrations. At least three persons have got injured in the police action, while thousands of additional troops have been deployed in the area.

Eyewitnesses told Agence India Press that, in the morning youth came out on streets at Naidkhai and started raising anti-government slogans. Around the same time, many people from various townships of Sopore like Tarzu, Hathishah, Krankhshivan Colony marched towards Naidkhai where they joined other protectors in main town Niadkhi and clashed with police and paramilitary personnel.

However, police and CRPF lobbed tear gas shells and resorted to baton charge.

Three persons have reportedly got injured in clashes and shifted to hospital.

Meanwhile, reports said thousands of people from Samboora, Patli Bagh, Aloochi Bagh, Hatiwara, Galender, Khrewa and adjoining areas chanting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans marched in defiance of curfew in a huge procession towards Pampore, situated on the national highway this morning.
The highway remained blocked as sea of people swarmed from surrounding areas to join the demonstration.

Paramilitary forces accompanied by police reached the spot and resorted to heavy shelling of tear smoke canisters and aerial firing.

When procession continued to move ahead they opened direct fire injuring scores of people of whom two have succumbed to their injuries so far.
Situation continues to be tense in the area.
