Patna: The country and the community have witnessed it for last several decades. Whenever elections come the family of Shahi Imams of Delhi’s Jama Masjid comes up and announces its support to party A or party B or sometimes to an alliance. Many times their decision affects few, sometimes it surprises many.
This time Ahmed Bukhari, the present Shahi Imam of Shahjahani mosque overlooking Lal Qila in the Walled City, has taken pain to travel 1000 km to announce yesterday in Bihar’s capital that he is with wrestler-turned politician Dadan Pehalwan and Abu Qaisar, an ‘emerging’ local player in the arena of politics.

Yesterday he launched Bihar United Democratic Front under the leadership of the duo and announced his full support to the cause of oppressed people that the front will take. At the press conference the Imam lambasted all secular parties, giving more time to Congress, and urged a fourth front to take on ruling NDA, opposition RJD-LJP and Congress in the coming state Assembly elections due in September-October.
Bukhari standing with Independent MLA Pahelwan surprised many. Once his father late Abdullah Bukhari had announced support to BJP, surprising many.
