New Delhi : The Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council has called for legislative changes to allow private companies in nuclear power generation, within an appropriate regulatory framework, Minister of State for Science & Technology Prithviraj Chavan said Friday.
Chavan said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha that the council in its ‘Economic Outlook for 2009-10’ inter-alia highlighted “the need to diversify our fuel sources and develop more natural gas and nuclear energy-based power plants as opposed to the coal-based capacities that currently exist”.
“There is an urgent need to make the necessary regulatory change quickly, so that investment, including that from established private companies interested in this business, can begin to flow,” Chavan said quoting from the Economic Outlook document.
