New Delhi : The Delhi assembly witnessed a ruckus on the opening day of the monsoon session Tuesday as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members protested over alleged financial irregularities in projects related to the Commonwealth Games.
As soon as the house met, some BJP members started beating plates with spoons, demanding adjournment of question hour to discuss irregularities in Games-related projects.
With the commotion continuing in the house, Speaker Yoganand Shastri asked marshals to evict the protesting members from the house.
As the speaker announced the beginning of question hour, leader of opposition V.K. Malhotra said the Games-related irregularities are a matter of shame and should be discussed on a priority basis.
Soon Malhotra was joined by BJP leaders Jagdish Mukhi and Harsh Vardhan who shouted slogans against the Delhi government and demanded resignation of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
Speaker Shastri then adjourned the house for 20 minutes as the disturbances continued.
Earlier in the day, Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta took out a protest march near the Delhi assembly seeking Dikshit’s resignation.
The five-day monsoon session of the Delhi assembly started Tuesday.
