The ‘Justice for Maudany Forum’ was formed with Dr Sebastian Paul, ex-MP, as chairman in a meeting held in Kollam Press Club. A 25-member committee has been formed with Adv KP Muhammed as Working Chairman and H Shaheer Moulvi as general secretary. It has also formed a legal cell with 15 eminent lawyers.

The forum aims to carry out strong legal battle against the conspiracy by the Karnataka police and Home Minister against Maudany, said the office-bearers in the press conference held after the formation of the forum. Efforts are on to accuse Maudany in all the blast cases in the country. The Karnataka government which lets Pramod Muthalik free is now conspiring to trap Maudany. Providing legal aid for the case, carry out political struggle against the conspiracy, collecting enough financial aid to move the case forward, and organizing a gathering of media persons and cultural-human rights activists are the initial goals. The forum would function in the national level based in Delhi and Bengaluru. Karunagappalli in Kollam would be the centre in Kerala. It has also decided to collect financial contributions from masjids on September 3, next Friday.

Adv PK Raheem, Adv PMA Salam and Dr KT Jaleel (MLAs), T Arifali, PK Koya Moulvi, KP Aboobaker Hasrath, Thodiyoor Muhammed Kunju Moulvi, S Bha Surendra Babu, Dr S Balaraman, Dr MS Jayaprakash, Gro Vasu, Dr Neelalohithadasan Nadar, Kadakkal Abdul Azeez Moulvi, Dr Fasal Gafoor, CK Abdul Kareem, CR Neelakandan, Civic Chandran, Najeeb Moulvi Mampad, Poonthura Siraj, MA Samad, Adv Ismail Wafa, Abdul Shukoor Moulvi and BRP Bhasker are the patrons. Other members of the committee are: Jamal Muhammed (treasurer), Hameed Vanimel, CK Abdul Azeez, Adv Saji K Cheraman, KA Shafeeq, Mujeeb Rahman Kinalur, Dr AA Ameen, BOJ Labba, Vayalar Gopakumar, Varkkala Raj, Saifudheen Haji, Adv Akbar Ali, M Aliyar Kutty and Pangode Qamarudheen (vice-chairmen) and Gafoor Puthuppadi, Subair Sabahi, Mailakkad Shah, Pachalloor Abdul Saleem Moulvi, Muhammed Rajeeb, Kadakkal Junaid, U Shaiju, Chelakkulam Abdul Hameed Moulvi and Muhammed Salih Moulvi (conveners).

Meanwhile, Maudany will be presented before Bengaluru First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate today at 4 pm as his 10-day police custody ends today. The police may seek an extension of his custody as hinted by City Police Commissioner Shanker Bidri and state Home Minister VS Acharya. There are reports that the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch which is investigating the case might inform the court that other agencies like the Intelligence Bureau would interrogate Maudany in the coming days. Maudany’s lawyers would submit a bail plea today in the court.

The new statement of the Karnataka Home Minister is a clear sign for the fact that law is not going in the law’s course, but rather it is following another course, said PDP state general secretary Subair Sabahi. The Muslim League should make its stand clear when the Sangh Parivar move to book Maudany in more blast cases has been disclosed. The minister’s statement that persons including Maudany were behind the Chinnaswamy Stadium blasts is foolishness. Those including T Naseer were in jail when the blast took place. The police have not got any evidence against Maudany in the Bengaluru blast case. Deliberate efforts are on to deny a possible bail. The general public should line up against this, he added. The PDP would organize strong agitation against the conspiracy to trap Maudany. A gathering would be organized at the Malappuram Municipal Auditorium by the Maudany Legal Aid Committee on August 31.

The government and the judiciary should immediately intervene to ensure justice to Maudany, said the state working committee meeting of the Ittihadu Shubbanil Mujahideen (ISM). It is contradictory that double standards are followed in the case of Maudany alone when those accused in the Babri Masjid demolition and several blasts in the country are moving around freely. Nadvathul Mujahideen general secretary CP Umer Sullami inaugurated the meeting presided over by ISM president Mujeeb Rahman Kinalur.

Karnataka Home Minister VS Acharya had last day said that Maudany had confessed during his interrogation about his role in the Chinnaswamy Stadium blast which took place in April 2010. But Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidri yesterday refuted the minister’s claim saying Maudany’s role has not been proven yet. Maudany also had informed via his lawyers that he had made no such confession and that the police had interrogated him only regarding the Bengaluru blast case of 2008. However, the sudden statement of the minister just days before the ending of the police custody has strengthened suspicion that the BJP government in Karnataka was directly interfering in the case now under investigation. The statement is seen as a means to create opinion against giving bail to Maudany and for an easy extension of his police custody.

PDP chairman Abdunnasir Maudany was arrested by the Karnataka police on August 17 from Kerala as per the arrest warrant against him, being the 31st accused in the 2008 Bengaluru blast case, by a Bengaluru court. However, Maudany has maintained he was innocent of the charges and made it clear that he would fight the legal battle to prove his innocence. Maudany was remanded to 10 days’ police custody which ends today. Maudany was earlier in jail for nearly 10 years, having been accused in the 1998 Coimbatore blast case, before being released finding him innocent in August 2007.
