UPA leaders to discuss parliament logjam

By IANS,

New Delhi: Leaders of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) constituents will meet here Monday evening to review the 17-day-old logjam in parliament, triggered by the opposition’s demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe in the 2G spectrum allotment scam, a Congress leader said.

He added that Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who is leader of the house in the Lok Sabha, will preside over the meeting to be held at his office.

Joint protest by the entire Opposition – the National Democratic Alliance, the Left parties and other parties – have disrupted parliament’s functioning with no substantial legislative business transacted in the winter session, which began Nov 9.

UPA sources said the meeting will be an attempt to iron out the differences aired by some constituents including the Trinamool Congress and the DMK on the approach to a JPC.
