Beijing : Business leaders in Britain see China as a place of opportunity but the media and communication sectors still consider China a “threat”, a survey has revealed.
The survey done by KL Communications, a Chinese branding and corporate communications company based in Britain, was released this week.
It found business leaders in Britain are “most pro-China” in the country while many from the media and communication sectors still tend to view Beijing as a threat, the China Daily reported Thursday.
Though the sample size of the survey – 126 people – was not big, those surveyed were “carefully selected” opinion leaders from four categories – London’s financial centre and business, politics and NGOs, media and communications, and the public sector.
The study found 66 percent of the people surveyed rank China as more of an opportunity, with senior people in politics and NGOs giving the highest rating, at 81 percent.
But 41 percent from the media and communications industry see China as more of a threat – compared to the 34 percent overall figure.
Kevin Lin, founder and managing director of KL Communications, said: “As China has officially become the world’s second largest economy with 1.3 billion consumers, there is no doubt it offers tremendous opportunities for Britain.”
Lin is also the lead Chinese interpreter of the foreign office.
“The result represents an extremely high level of awareness of a different business environment in China,” he said.
A whopping 98 percent of the surveyed rate issues like understanding Chinese customers and understanding Chinese culture and language as “very important”.
