New Delhi: Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni Wednesday said that proposed amendments in the Prasar Bharati Act are aimed at reconstructing the public broadcasting system.
“The GoM (group of ministers) asked us to amend the Prasar Bharti Act, specially the two sections which were never introduced”, Soni said in an interview to All India Radio.
The minister said that the GoM headed by Home Minister P. Chidambarm has recommended amendments to two sections of the act dealing with the setting up of a broadcasting council and a committee of 22 MPs.
“The GoM is favouring that the corporation should be funded by the government to meet its public service broadcasting objectives,” she said.
Responding to a question on Congress’s ties with DMK, Soni asserted that the 2G spectrum issue has not affected her party’s ties with the regional ally.
“Our relations with DMK have not been spoilt. Mr. Karunanidhi is ensuring that the guilty is punished,” she added.
