Kolkata : West Bengal’s ruling Left Front major Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) is carrying out a fund-raising drive across the state to help the family members of its cadres killed in clashes with the opposition Trinamool Congress and Maoists.
‘Altogether 167 CPI-M cadres have lost their lives since the April-May general elections last year. We have launched the drive to help the families of these dead party members,” Left Front chairman Biman Bose told reporters here.
Meanwhile, the CPI-M has also brought out an advertisement Thursday in its Bengali mouthpiece ‘Ganashakti’ seeking contributions from people to assist the victims’ families and for those who had to leave home due to violence allegedly perpetrated by the opposition.
All district level committees have also been requested to collect this fund for the party.
Bose said CPI-M’s Tripura state committee also handed over Rs.10 lakh monetary help to the party’s West Bengal committee to help the family members of those killed since the last Lok Sabha elections.
