Iran, Pakistan underline need for expansion of friendly ties

Tehran : Visiting Pakistani National Assembly Speaker Fahmida Mirza conferred on Sunday with Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on issues of mutual interests as well as regional developments.

In the meeting, Fahmida Mirza said her government has arrested some members of the Pakistan-based Jundallah terrorist group (Rigi) and has delivered them to Iranian officials.

Mottaki said “Unfortunately the interference of foreign powers in the the region particularly in Pakistan has inflicted huge losses on Iran and Pakistan.

Despite their wrong policies on Afghanistan, the big powers continue with such failed policies in connection with regional developments, he said.

Iran and Pakistan play key role in regional developments, said the Iranian foreign minister, adding that the two sides call for expansion of strategic and comprehensive cooperation in resolving these issues

There are ample potentials for expansion of mutual cooperation which should be explored by both sides, he said.

The Pakistani parliament speaker, for her part, congratulated Mottaki on the 31st victory anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and said this revolution has not only brought about massive changes in the country but has also left extensive impacts on other Islamic states.

The Pakistani president has called for expansion of friendly ties with the Islamic Repulic of Iran, she said, adding that the Pakistani government has arrested and delivered to Iran some members of the Pakistan-based Jundallah terrorist group (Rigi).
