Kolkata: Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, spiritual leader and founder of the Art of Living Foundation, led a cleanliness drive at the Lily Pool area at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium in the southern part of Kolkata. He is on a three-day visit to the city.
Around 175 Art Of Living volunteers and several others participated with him in the cleanliness drive Thursday.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar established the Art of Living Foundation, an educational, and humanitarian non-governmental organisation that works in special consultative status with the economic and social council of the United Nations.
Lake Rabindra Sarobar is popularly referred to as the “Lungs of Calcutta”. It is suffering environmental degradation, owing to an increase in tourist flow and habitation around it.
The union environment and forests ministry has recently included the lake under the National Lake Conservation Plan in the hope to preserve it.
