Pune: Thank God. Like Mumbai terror attacks, the Pune bomb blast killing nine people and wounding 50 has not caused any panic among the locals, no communal flare-up. Today is Valentine’s Day. Markets are open, doing business as usual. The German Bakery and surrounding area are cordoned off though, traffic is normal in other parts of the city.

A high-intensity bomb ripped through German Bakery at Koregaon Park near famous Osho Ashram in Pune last evening at 7:30 pm. Nine people were killed in the blast and about 50 injured. Though the bakery is a popular joint for foreigners visiting the area, no foreign casualty has been confirmed so far. Besides Osho Ashram, a Jewish Chabad and a synagogue are also in the neighborhood of the bakery.

The Pune blast is the first terror attack after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. Maharashtra ATS, CBI and NIA sleuths have reached the spot and started investigation. No individual or group has claimed for the attack.

Despite first gruesome terror attack in Pune, the city today woke up to a normal morning. Being Sunday, streets have not much crowd but being Valentine’s Day youths are coming out, and markets opening.
