Nepal Prez arrives in Delhi on a 3-day state visit

New Delhi : Nepal’s President, Ram Baran Yadav, arrived in New Delhi on Monday for a three-day state visit to India.

Yadav, accompanied by a large delegation, was received at the airport by Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur.

Nepal President will hold talks with his Indian counterpart and meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi among others during his first visit of the southern neighbour.

Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao will call on the president this evening.

The two countries are likely to sign four agreements — extension of railway services, an air services deal as well as construction of a polytechnic and a convention hall on the India-Nepal border.

This is Yadav’s first foreign visit since being elected president in 2008.

India and Nepal share a unique relationship of friendship and cooperation characterised by an open border and deep-rooted people-to-people contacts.

The visit of the President of Nepal will further strengthen the friendly ties that exist between India and Nepal.
