Kolkata : Auto major Maruti Suzuki India would be spending around Rs.200 crore to create a network of company-owned stockyards and model showrooms across the country by 2011-12, a senior official said here Friday.
“We would be decentralising our warehousing currently in Gurgaon by setting up stockyards in each region,” company’s administrative managing executive officer S.Y. Siddiqui told reporters on the sidelines of an annual conference of National Institute of Personnel Management.
Maruti would be acquiring 25 acres at each of the four regions for setting up the stockyards. Siddiqui said these stockyards would help the company to cut down on delivery time of cars.
“We currently have one model showroom, which is at Delhi that showcases our entire product range and we have plans to set up 16 such showrooms at all the 16 cities where we have regional offices,” he said.
The company plans to fully localise its research and development by 2011-12 by taking up its strength to 1,450 personnel from 1,000 at present.
“Experienced research personnel from Detroit are being currently recruited, taking advantage of the current global economic recession. This (the recession) has forced many of them to consider shift to India,” he said.
The company also said it will add 3,000 employees in the next three years.
