Lucknow : Policemen in Uttar Pradesh ushered in 2010 in a noble way, donating blood Friday with a New Year’s resolution to “save more and more lives”.
Policemen in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly division, comprising four districts, donated blood to mark the beginning of the New Year.
“I really feel a sense of pride and accomplishment as policemen of my division thought of the noble way to start the New Year,” Bareilly’s Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Dipesh Juneja told reporters Friday.
“In my opinion such an exercise should not be just for a New Year’s resolution…We have to make it an all-year’s resolution,” he added.
Policemen of various ranks lined up at the blood donation camps in Bareilly, Badaun, Pilibhit and Shahjanapur to donate blood.
“We want such blood donation camps should be carried out in all 70 districts of the state…just imagine how many lives this could save,” said Inspector M.M. Khan.
Officials were of the view that blood donation should be carried out on all important festivals and events.
“Why just New Year?…we should donate blood on important events. We need more and more people to come forward and become regular donors to support blood banks and hospitals,” said B.R. Verma, another inspector.
