Kolkata : Three Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) activists were killed by suspected Maoists in the troubled West Midnapore district of West Bengal, police said Sunday.
While Jhantu Patra was killed at Bamal area near the Lalgarh belt Saturday night, the bodies of Hiteshwar Singh and Ananth Singh were found at Belpahari Sunday afternoon.
According to police sources, Patra was called out by a group of miscreants Saturday night and later killed.
Both Hiteshwar Singh and Ananth Singh were hacked to death by the Maoists when the two were returning home after attending a funeral of a relative in the district.
Police officials said the CPI-M activists were killed by the Left-wing ultras as they suspected them of being police informers.
On Saturday, at least two suspected Maoists were also killed and one was injured in a gunbattle with police in Lalgarh.
Maoist rebels are active in three western districts of the state – Bankura, Purulia and West Midnapore.
