“We have one accident every minute and one accidental death every four-and-a-half minutes on roads. This is not acceptable,” Kamal Nath said at the formal inauguration of the 10th Auto Expo here.

“We need to strengthen our road network for seamless travel and all-round inclusive growth,” he added.

The minister also said that infrastructure developers would have to look at newer technologies to ensure that more roads are constructed in less time.

“We should have better technology so that we can target constructing 20 km of road per day. We have the resources and the funds but to reach this target we need technology.”

Currently, the government constructs about 9 km of roads and highways every day, and aims to build 7,000 km of roads over the next two years.
