Lucknow: Several crackers “resembling bombs” were Thursday found lying near the Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi complex in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district.
“As many as 18 crackers that looked like bombs were recovered from a high-security area. It’s definitely a major security lapse as the site is guarded by teams of police and other paramilitary forces,” a senior Uttar Pradesh police officer told IANS.
Security personnel came across the crackers at a tea-stall near the complex.
“When we reached the spot we were initially shocked. At first sight, the crackers resembled bombs,” another police officer in Mathura said.
Police are yet to ascertain how the crackers reached near the temple complex that is heavily guarded by security personnel.
“It’s true the crackers initially appeared like bombs. We still don’t know who kept the crackers there…We have detained the owner of the tea stall to question him about the visitors who came to his shop,” Mathura police chief B.D. Paulson told IANS on phone.
Mathura is around 400 km from state capital Lucknow.
