“I met Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee yesterday and have asked him for additional fiscal stimulus for exporters in the federal budget,” Sharma told reporters.

Asked which sectors would get the stimulus, Sharma said: “We will take a view on it. We have not decided on that now.”

Then he added that sectors like textile and engineering will benefit from the stimulus package.

The minister said that exports in November had been encouraging. “I am confident that the December figures will also be encouraging,” he added.

India’s exports rose 18.2 percent in November to $13.2 billion, the first rise after 13 straight months of decline.

The commerce and industry ministry is expected to unveil its stimulus package soon to selected export sectors which have been suffering due to the global economic slowdown.
