New Delhi: After a clear morning and a mildly sunny day Saturday, Delhiites will have to brace themselves for a foggy Sunday morning, the weatherman said.
“Fog is expected (Sunday) morning but it should be a clear sky during the day,” an official from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) told IANS.
The capital recorded the lowest day temperature in five years Friday at 12.1 degrees Celsius. The same day, dense fog wreaked havoc with the rail and flight schedules.
On Saturday the situation was better and Delhiites were able to enjoy a clearer day with visibility comfortably over 1,000 meters and a rise in the mercury level.
“The daytime temperature touched a maximum of 17.8 degrees Celsius and the minimum recorded in the morning was 9 degrees Celsius,” the official said.
The Met office has predicted that the daytime temperature Sunday would hover around 19 degrees Celsius while the minimum is likely to remain the same.
An airport official said that unlike the previous few days when fog upset flight schedules, Saturday was much better.
“The runway visual range (RVR) this (Saturday) morning was 2,000 metres so all fights were on schedule. Yesterday (Friday) because of the fog all fights were grounded till 10.30 a.m.,” an airport official said.
Railway services Saturday were still facing delays and cancellations due to fog from previous days.
“There was hardly any fog in Delhi, but the condition in other places may not be as good. In addition there is a heavy backlog. Therefore, there were many delays and rescheduling of trains today (Saturday),” a Northern Railway spokesperson told IANS.
Five trains, including those to and from the northeast have been rescheduled while almost 50 were delayed, the official added.
