Ranchi: Jharkhand Wednesday got its first Muslim director general of police (DGP) in Neyaz Ahmad, a 1974 batch Indian Police Service officer, who was appointed to the post.
He replaced 1973 batch IPS officer V.D. Ram, who has been made director general (DG) of Home and Fire services, a government notification said.
Ahmad will also hold the DG vigilance post besides that of DGP, Jharkhand.
Earlier also, Ahmad was the DG of state vigilance department. During his tenure, the department arrested former Chief Minister Madhu Koda and three ex-ministers — Enos Ekka, Harinarayan Rai and Kamlesh Singh.
The vigilance department also filed charge sheets against Ekka and Rai for amassing assets beyond their known incomes.
