Surya’s Gwalior unit to start production from April

Shimla : The new facility of Surya Roshni, a manufacturer of lighting products, in Madhya Pradesh would start production from April, a senior official said here Thursday.

“The new lamp manufacturing facility at Gwalior (in Madhya Pradesh) would start production from April 1 this year,” Surya’s Deputy Managing Director Arvind Bansal told reporters.

He said that with an outlay of Rs.100 crore this would be the company’s second unit in Gwalior.

“The company would annually produce 33,000 high mast towers and octagonal streetlight poles in the new facility,” he said.

The company’s second manufacturing plant is at Nainital in Uttarakhand.

Besides, the company is also setting up a research and development (R&D) centre at Noida in Uttar Pradesh.

“We are also setting up an R&D centre at Noida that would be commissioned by next six months,” the official said.

“The company also plans to invest about Rs.550 crore on capacity expansion in its plants by March 2010, including Rs.50 crore in the existing Gwalior unit.

“It is also aiming to increase its annual turnover of Rs.1,700 crore to Rs.5,000 crore in the next two years and plans to employ 6,000 people in a year,” he added.

The company currently has a market share of about 25 per cent in the lighting segment.
