Islamabad : More than fifteen militants were killed and several others wounded in the latest US missile strike on Pakistan’s border tribal belt, conducted amid unconfirmed reports a Taliban chief had been killed.
At least two missiles were fired at a suspected militant training center in Shaktoi district of South Waziristan tribal agency, security sources told KUNA.
They said the attack killed more than fifteen militants, including some foreigners, and wounded several others.
The state-run Pakistan Television (PTV) citing official sources put the death toll to more than six and expressed fear of a rise of death toll.
Security sources said that an operation was underway to retrieve more bodies from under the rubble of the center.
The strike was the third since Friday in the Waziristan region and came amid confusion over the killing of Hakimullah Mehsud, chief of outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
On Friday, more than 10 militants were killed in two strikes that took place within an hour from each other in the region.
