Raipur : Three Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, including a former chief secretary, have been booked for their alleged roles in a Rs.150 crore (Rs.1.5 billion/$33 million) scam, an Economic Offences Wing (EOW) official said Tuesday.
The cases were Monday slapped against former chief secretary R.P. Bagai, former Marketing Federation (Markfed) chairman T.S. Chatwal and Subrat Sahu, who is currently posted as a secretary in the tourism department.
The three IAS officers were charged with allegedly purchasing gunny bags worth Rs.150 crore through contracts that went against Markfed rules. The orders for the bags meant to store paddy were placed in 2002-03 and 2003-04.
“The cases were registered Monday after the EOW completed the preliminary investigation into the scam and found enough evidences of corruption,” EOW Superintendent of Police D.D. Chaturvedi said.
Another EOW official said various other Markfed officials are also set to face charges soon for their alleged roles in the scam.
The cases were registered under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act and section 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) that deals with punishment of criminal conspiracy.
