Hyderabad : Depressed over the delay in the formation of a separate Telangana state, three more people committed suicide, taking the deaths to six in three days.
Despite appeals by all political parties not to resort to suicides, three staunch supporters of Telangana belonging to Nizamabad and Medak districts ended their lives.
Fearing that a Telangana state may not become a reality, a youth committed suicide in Kamareddy town of Nizamabad district early Thursday. Police said Suresh hanged himself in his house. In a suicide note, the youth said he was saddened over the delay in carving out a Telangana state.
Suresh’s family members said he was actively participating in the ongoing Telangana movement.
In Medak district, A. Dasarath committed suicide. His relatives claimed that the youth hanged himself.
Earlier, an agricultural labourer in Medak district committed suicide by consuming pesticides. N. Kishen (45) resorted to the extreme step Wednesday after attending a cultural programme on Telangana where artists narrated how K.Venugopal Reddy, a student, ended his life.
Venugopal Reddy, a student of MCA (master of computer applications) in a college here, self-immolated. His body was found on the campus of Osmania University early Tuesday, triggering a new wave of protests across the region.
The same day a BSc girl student in Mahbubnagar district set herself ablaze. In Nalgonda district B. Anil Kumar hanged himself. The ITI diploma holder in his suicide note wrote that he was sacrificing his life for Telangana.
According to Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leaders 36 people, the majority of them students, have committed suicide for Telangana cause during the past two months.
