New Delhi: Artist Ebrahim Alkazi, music maestro A R Rahman and Bollywood star Amir Khan are among 15 Muslims who will be honored with India’s highest civilian awards Padma Awards for the year 2010.
The awards are given every year to the distinguished people to recognize their contribution in different fields of activities, viz. art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.

Padma Awards are given in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field.
Ebrahim Alkazi will get Padma Vibhushan while A R Rahman and Amir Khan will get Padma Bhushan.
The list announced today has two Muslim for Padma Vibhushan, six for Padma Bhushan and seven for Padma Shri.
This year the President has approved 130 awards including 13 in the category of Foreigners/ NRIs/ PIOs. These comprise 6 Padma Vibhushan, 43 Padma Bhushan and 81 Padma Shri awards.
