“We are trying to get the accreditation from an international agency called Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, which will help us get more foreign students in future,” IIM-Calcutta director Shekhar Chowdhury said on the sidelines of an interactive session Wednesday.

“Once we get the accreditation, it will help our students enjoy global recognition of their degrees and provide an international ranking for the institute,” said Chowdhury.

He said there were altogether 400-odd institutions across the globe that enjoy AACSB accreditation.

Asked about the time-frame in getting the accreditation, he said: “It’s a long-drawn process. I think the assessment will take at least the next 2-3 years.”

Chowdhury said an internal committee, headed by Subir Bhattacharya, had already been formed to look into the whole issue.

“An international pilot team is likely to visit the IIM-Calcutta campus in the next two months and they will examine the available infrastructure and faculty here,” an IIM official said.

He added that the institution currently has only one foreign student who is an Israeli national.
