Noida: A murder accused out on bail was shot at and seriously injured by unidentified assailants in the Sarfabad locality of Noida, police said Friday.
According to police, Yogendra Kumar alias Dholu, was an accused in the murder of a Sarfabad wrestler named Satish Pahelwan about five years back and was out on bail for quite some time. On Thursday midnight, as he was returning home, he was shot at by unidentified men in Sarfabad, under Sector-39 police station of Noida.
Yogendra was rushed to Shivalik Hospital where his condition was stated to be serious, police said.
The police said Yogendra could have been attacked because of an old rivalry with the Satish group. Yogendra along with Rakesh Singh was an accused in the murder of Satish. They were arrested by Noida Police due to mounting protests by the Samajwadi Party, which was in power then in Uttar Pradesh.
An official at Sector-39 police station said, “We have held a man in connection with the case. The matter is being investigated in view of rivalry.”
