London : A 100-year-old painting has fetched 1.44 million pounds ($2.18 million), more than double its estimated price, at an auction in Britain.
“Nina en la Playa” (Girl on the Beach) created in 1910 by Spanish artist Joaquin Sorolla sold Tuesday at the auction at Christie’s in London.
The picture was estimated to fetch between 915,000 and 1.37 million euros ($1.1 million-$1.7 million).
The painting features a little girl walking on a wet sandy beach with a boat and a fisherman in the background.
