“It was random firing of a few shots from a distance at a CRPF camp based in Ekda village. When the troopers returned the fire, the guerrillas escaped into the nearby forests,” Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) T.J. Longkumer told IANS over telephone.

On June 29, Maoists had ambushed a team of security personnel in Narayanpur district, killed 27 of them.

Chhattisgarh has been rocked by a series of blasts and gunfights in 2010. In the past three months alone, 150 people, mostly security personnel, have lost their lives in Maoist violence.
