New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday expressed disappointment with the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government for not keeping terror as the core issue in talks with Pakistan.
“The present government is talking with Pakistan, not with terror as the core issue. The BJP is disappointed with this and we have expressed this several times in the past too. There should not be any talks till any visible action is taken by Pakistan (on terror),” BJP spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters.
He also said the central government should take the confessions made by the Pakistani American terrorist David Coleman Headley, who helped Lashkar-e-Taiba plot the Mumbai carnage, seriously.
“Pakistan is definitely under military and ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence) pressure and that is obvious from the recent Indo-Pak dialogue. We need to stress on Headley’s confessions of the ISI links,” he added.
Last week’s talks between Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Indian Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna ended in a deadlock over Islamabad raking up human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir and New Delhi’s insistence that Pakistan give a time frame for completing trial of the 26/11 attackers.
