Adil, a post-graduate student of mass communication, was suspended on June 3, 2010 and asked to appear before Discipline Committee (DC) with satisfactory explanation about charges against him.

The charges against him by AMU administration include provoking students to force closure of AMU after the murder of an AMU student last year, leading a mob of students to protest against installation of the CCTV cameras and some alleged corruption and attempt to defame the image through misstatements on some networking sites.

On July 2, Adil submitted his response to the DC describing all allegations baseless but AMU authority rejected it and issued order on 13 July imposing lifelong campus ban on him.

According to rustication letter, Adil has been given ample opportunity to clear his position but instead of defending himself and answering the charges against him, he impugned entire educational office of inquiry and countered charges and posted counter questions. He was reminded by member of DC that he had to answer the allegations made against him in the chargesheet and not put counter questions but he failed to do so. Therefore, on the recommendation of DC, Vice Chancellor passed the rustication order.

Reacting to the rustication order Adil Hussain said: “The rustication order clearly proves that the Discipline Committee was held in Taliban style. In spite of my repeated request for provision of evidence for charges leveled against me, I was not provided with any evidence, thus denying me the chance to prepare a full and informed defense.”

He further alleged: “AMU administration’s apathy towards students’ careers and lives is clear in my case where, in their current top priority to crush all forms of defiance, they didn’t even care to comply with the principle of audi alteram partem which any democratic institution must follow during any judicial or quasi-judicial trial.”

Adil who hails from Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal was also suspended earlier on November 4, 2009 when he along with five other students was found guilty to force the University to close on the issue of the murder of university student Mr. Shahnawaz Alam at a restaurant near Railway Station outside the campus.
