The increase in their numbers can be credited to the diversity of tourist attractions in Sharjah, which included cultural programmes, museums, public parks, safari trips and shopping facilities, the SCTDA said in a report.

It said there has been a steady growth in the sector, with a 64 percent hotel occupancy rate in June, compared to 61 percent in the corresponding period last year.

SCTDA director general Mohammed A. Al Noman said: “These figures provide clear evidence of the great efforts exerted by Sharjah in promoting commerce and tourism, and serves as proof that the emirate has become a favourable tourist destination.”

He added that festivals and events reflect the emirate’s rich cultural heritage and tourist assets.
