Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railway Wednesday said it has registered a 5.87 percent increase in freight loading during the first quarter of this fiscal as compared to the growth in the corresponding period last year.
A senior official of the Bhubaneswar-headquartered East Coast Railway (ECoR) said the ECoR has loaded 25.78 million tonnes of freight as compared to 24.35 million tones achieved in the corresponding period of last year.
The railway had set a loading target of 25.67 million tonnes for the period, he told IANS.
ECoR has also earned Rs.1,606.18 crore from originating freight loading during this period as compared to
Rs.1,475.94 crore during the corresponding period of last year, registering a 8.8 per cent increase, he said.
Similarly, it has also shown a significant improvement on passenger transportation.
During the first quarter, it has carried 19.42 million originating passengers registering an increase of 11.89 per cent over the corresponding period of last year.
Similarly, from the earning of passenger carrying, ECor Railway has earned Rs.170.69 crore as compared to
Rs.156.58 crore during the corresponding period of last year registering an increase of 9.01 per cent, he said.
